Melinda Ciarabellini

Eureka City Council - Vote November 6th

Thank you Eureka!

Thank you everyone who voted for me to serve as your 4th Ward representative on the Eureka City Council. I was proud to be appointed by Mayor Frank Jager to fulfill the remainder of his term and I’m proud to be elected to continue to serve you on the City Council for the next four years.

Although I ran unopposed, there was a great effort that went into this campaign early on. I’d like to thank all of my campaign volunteers and my family, in particular my son Jeremy, as my ex parte campaign manager/advisor, and my husband Pete, who has stood by me through thick and thin and without whom I could not have met this challenge. I love you guys!

Values & Vision

I believe it is important to maintain a positive vision for our City despite these tough economic times. We must strive for the best and not settle for less. My vision for Eureka starts with making public safety a priority. Then we can attract businesses with livable wage jobs, encourage responsible growth both in business and housing, while at the same time respecting and heeding the needs for the environmental health of our pristine natural resources.

Integrity, loyalty, faith and honor.

I value the rights of our citizens to live, work and thrive in a City that is safe and prosperous; a City where we can be proud to say we are Eurekans!

Experience and Leadership

Melinda at the Eureka City Coucil building

I retired in 2010 after a 33 year career as a law enforcement/corrections professional. I worked my way up through the ranks to become the first woman promoted to the rank of Correctional Captain, in command of the 411-bed Humboldt County Correctional Facility, overseeing 115 Correctional Officers, 20 civilian staff and budget of approximately $8.5 million. During my tenure with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, I spearheaded many innovative custody related projects to help reduce jail overcrowding and improve public safety; most notably, the Director of Project Challenge, a substance abuse treatment program for adult offenders; Co-author and oversight Manager of the (MIOCR) Mentally Ill Offender Crime Reduction grant; Program Manager for the Jail Transition Team for the then new Humboldt County Correctional Facility.
